Anthony P. Weetman, MD, DSc

Tony Weetman was the Sir Arthur Hall Professor of Medicine at the University of Sheffield and Consultant Endocrinologist at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust 1991-2016 and is now Emeritus Professor of Medicine. He was Dean of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences from 1999-2008 and Pro Vice Chancellor for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health from 2008-2015. His main research interests are the immunoregulation and genetics of autoimmune endocrine disorders, especially those involving the thyroid. He received the Merck Prize of the European Thyroid Association (2002), the Novo Nordisk Jacobeus Prize (2012) and the Paul Starr Award of the American Thyroid Association (2013). His educational roles have included being Chair of the UK Health Education Advisory Committee and the Medical Schools Council. He is currently Chair of the Scottish Medical Schools Board.
